Family Service League is delighted to announce new grants to support the Essex County Rape Care Center from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, the Jewish Women's Foundation of New Jersey, and the State of New Jersey. New support for the counseling program has been provided by the Community Development Block Grant Program and the Junior League of Montclair-Newark and Family Service League's exciting new Mentor program is supported by a grant from Roche.
Grants for the Essex County Rape Care Center will allow Family Service League to expand the services available to communities in need. The Newark Rape Care Initiative, funded by the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, has allowed the Rape Care Center to hire a staff member dedicated exclusively to direct service to survivors and outreach and education about sexual violence prevention in our county’s largest city. The East Orange/Orange/Irvington Rape Care Initiative, supported by a three year grant from the New Jersey State Office of Victim Witness Advocacy, will accomplish the same goal in these three Essex County municipalities. Funding from the Jewish Women’s Foundation of New Jersey has allowed Family Service League to offer a special new workshop on sexual violence prevention to two and four colleges throughout Essex County.
Our recent grant from the Community Development Block Grant program has allowed Family Service League to expand counseling services to Spanish speaking families, a growing community in Essex County. The Junior League of Montclair-Newark’s recent award will make it possible for the agency to continue to offer counseling at no cost to young children impacted by sexual violence.
Together, these recent grants have had a powerful impact on our ability to serve families in Essex Family, especially families who do not have access to services. We are enormously grateful to our funders for partnering with us as we pursue our mission.
